A public evidence record of police violence at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar

This independent archive preserves public posts documenting reported police action, injuries, detentions and testimony at the protest site. Approved sources are captured as local evidence packages, hashed, cryptographically timestamped and published with provenance.

Reader note Some linked posts may contain distressing images or descriptions. Items are presented as source material, not as independently verified findings.

02 / Preservation

From a public URL to a verifiable evidence package

The archive separates collection from verification. Preservation protects the captured bytes and their provenance; it does not automatically prove every claim made in a post.

  1. 01

    Capture locally

The public page, embedded images, available video, metadata and a WARC response record are saved on the editor’s computer.

  2. 02

    Hash every file

A manifest records each filename, media type, byte size and SHA-256 digest. Any later byte-level change produces a different digest.

  3. 03

    Timestamp the manifest

OpenTimestamps submits only the manifest commitment—not the media—to public calendars for anchoring to Bitcoin.

  4. 04

    Publish with provenance

Approved, non-sensitive packages are uploaded to Internet Archive. The playable media, snapshot, WARC, hashes and proof remain publicly citable.

Reader verification

Authenticate each preserved record yourself

  1. Compare the original platform URL with the captured source URL in the Internet Archive item.
  2. Download the evidence manifest and SHA-256 checksum list; recompute a file hash to detect any byte-level change.
  3. Download SHA256SUMS.txt.ots and verify the Bitcoin-backed timestamp with ots verify SHA256SUMS.txt.ots.

What this establishes: the archive possessed these exact bytes no later than the confirmed timestamp. It does not by itself establish authorship, location, intent, or the truth of a post’s claims.

03 / Method

What this archive does—and does not claim

Collection

The initial record was assembled from public posts saved by the editor. Publication time, author and source URL are retained.

Attribution

Words shown here remain attributed to their original authors. A listing documents a public claim; it does not automatically verify it.

Continuity

Original links may be deleted, restricted or changed by their platforms. A missing embed is not treated as proof that an event did or did not occur.

Care

Suggestions are reviewed before publication. Private accounts, personal data and material that could put vulnerable people at risk are not accepted.

04 / Contribute

Add a public source to the record

If you witnessed the events or found relevant public posts, submit one X or Instagram URL or upload a plain-text list. Submissions enter the same review queue and are never published automatically.

Please do not submit private accounts, names of minors, home addresses, phone numbers, identity documents or live locations.
